Health and Vaccinations
Travellers to Tajikistan do not need to be immunized, but they must have the most recent in Typhoid and Tetanus and Polio, Hepatitis A and Polio. Malaria can also be seen in Tajikistan and it’s an excellent idea to talk to your local GP for recommendations on vaccinations.

The first thing to say about travelling in Central Asia is that most areas, specifically the towns and cities, are much more relaxed approach to Islam than their neighbours to the south in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, it should also be noted that it is technically considered to be a Muslim region and an extra dose of caution is required in certain areas. Long-sleeved shirts and shorts are suitable for men and women in urban areas, but in the case of visiting any mosques active, all visitors should wear pants that fall below the knee and tops that cover their shoulders. Women should also wear the headscarf. While on this tour, we’ll be exploring remote regions not often visited by tourists. Local people wear modest clothing, so it is likely that you’ll feel more comfortable in conservative clothing.
Language and Religion
Tajikistan’s official language is Tajik. Russian is still extensively used for communication and business.
The majority of the population follow Sunni Islam, with the minority of people who adhere to Russian Orthodox, Catholicism, Buddhism and Judaism.
Food and drinks
The tour is focused on meats and soups. There are a few vegetables that are difficult to get in remote areas and in higher elevations. However, there are plenty of dried nuts and dried fruits that you can taste.
In terms of alcohol, the choice is typically limited to vodka or beer, so those looking for something different , like Scotch or Gin for example – ought to buy it duty free and take it home. Mixer drinks such as tonic water can be extremely difficult to find, though.
