Kaparkan Falls (also known as Mulawin Falls) is a limestone terraces hidden since way back when from the landlocked province of Abra. This travertine rose to fame in 2015 when pictures of the terraced water gours were uploaded on the net.

Reaching Kaparkan Falls requires good mental and physical sturdiness. In a province 9-10 hours ride from Manila, this travertine paradise is only able to be reached through off-road vehicles. Sometimes, these tough vehicles carrying tourists even falter as you go along. If you’re lucky these monsters of auto is not going to surrender, you’ll want to endure a harrowing, bumpy, and muscle numbing ride for a couple hours.

The “hell ride to paradise” provides you with insights in the mountainous part of the province. You’ll recognize that limestones are scattered along mountain slopes. Caves are often found under these terrains that’s corroborated with the Libtec Crystal Collapse Dolores and Sibud-Sibud Cave in Tineg, maybe even more in most areas waiting to be discovered. The top level includes shallow gours. This starts in the uppermost terraces, which can be off limits, prior to the gours draining to steep and several-meter high pools, just beneath the balite tree.

The reduced level has greater pool heights than those on the upper level. Further, you can find portions of this level which can be limited to tourists unless combined with local guides.

The reduced degree of the Karakan Falls requires a little walking down a slope beneath the forest trees and bamboos all night up following cascades up to the balite tree.
