Health and Vaccinations
There are no compulsory immunisations for travelers to Tajikistan though you should be up-to-date with Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio as well as Hepatitis A. Malaria is found in a few areas of Tajikistan which is why we advise you consult with your doctor or travel centre as to the correct immunisations and preventative treatments.
Cultural Sensitivity
On our tours you will frequently interact with local people who have their own distinct tradition and customs. We ask you to show respect and consideration to the locals. The tour guides and tour guides are always able to give you advice accordingly.
First, it is crucial to remember that Central Asia has a more open-minded attitude to Islam than its neighbours in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Central Asia is a Muslim region, so it’s essential to be careful when visiting certain areas. Both women and men can wear shorts or T-shirts in cities, they should not be wearing long sleeves or T-shirts. Anyone who visits active mosques should wear trousers that fall below the knees and tops which cover shoulders. Females should also be wearing an asymmetrical head scarf. The trip takes us to remote places that are not typically frequented by tourists. The locals are modest when it comes to their clothes and therefore you’re likely to feel more at ease dressed in conservative clothes too.
Language & Religion
Tajik is the official tongue of Tajikistan. Russian is still routinely used to conduct business and for communication.
A majority of people follow Sunni Islam. A small portion of the population are followers of Russian Orthodox, Catholicism and Buddhism.
Drinks and food
This tour focuses mainly on meats and soups. In distant and higher altitude regions, vegetables can be difficult to find. There are plenty of dried nuts and dried fruits to try though.
The options for alcohol are limited to beer or vodka. Anyone wanting to try something different, such as Scotch or Gin – should purchase it at no cost and carry it along. Mixer drinks, such as tonic water, can be difficult to find, though.
