There are no compulsory immunisations for travelers to Tajikistan although you must have up-to date vaccinations for Typhoid Tetanus Polio and Hepatitis A. Malaria can be found in certain parts of Tajikistan therefore we suggest you seek advice from your local doctor or travel specialist about the proper vaccinations and preventative treatments.
On our excursions, you’ll often interact with locals all with unique customs and practices. We ask you to show respect and consideration to local people. Your tour-leaders and guides are always able to advise you accordingly.
It is first important to know that Central Asia has a more friendly approach towards Islam than its neighbors in Pakistan and Afghanistan. But, it must be noted that it is technically a Muslim area, so some caution is recommended in certain areas. T-shirts and long shorts are suitable for men and women in the cities, but when visiting mosques that are active, everybody should wear trousers that fall below the knee, and tops that cover shoulders. The use of a head scarf is recommended for women. In this tour, we’re exploring remote regions not often visited by tourists. The locals are modest in their attire and so you are likely to feel more comfortable dressed in conservative clothes too.
Language and Religion
The official language of Tajikistan is Tajik. Russian is still used routinely for communication and business.
Most people follow Sunni Islam. A small proportion of people are believers of Russian Orthodox, Catholicism and Buddhism.
Food and drink
The meals on the tour tends mainly on soups, meat and potatoes. In the more remote and higher altitude areas vegetables can be difficult to find. There are plenty of dried fruit and nuts to try though.
For alcohol, options are typically limited to vodka or beer so anyone wanting something different , like Scotch or Gin for instance – must purchase it duty free and bring it with them. It can be difficult to locate mixer drinks such as tonic water.
