To look after your own self is easier said than done when you’re the caregiver of a seriously ill child. Add to that other children, a spouse, cooking,cleaning,laundry,appointments, pets, church, other family members or even an outside job and caring for you travels to the bottom of their email list. Here are some suggestions to place you at the top again without feeling guilty.
1. Delegate…. There’s no rule which says you have to do it all, whether you are mother or the dad. Let others help, delegate smaller age appropriate jobs to the other siblings, and divide chores with your spouse. Including the care for the sick child. Nobody person can do it all.
2. During points during the acute illness, have prepared or prepackaged meals readily available inside the freezer. There is nothing wrong having a frozen pizza occasionally. Or make simple meals like scrambled eggs and bacon or pancakes. Have fresh fruit available too, for a quick makeover and a simple snack for you personally.
3. Do household bills on the same day month after month as an alternative to more than once 30 days. When your child may be ill, the periods and weeks run together so it is easier to consider some day for bill paying. You happen to be less inclined to miss a bill and it is more enjoyable.
4. Plan to deal with emails, messages or calls, and also other household business exactly the same… on a single day monthly or one day per week. Assign a spokesperson for the entire family for that sometimes during the month saving your time and effort for the child or for rest yourself.
5. Utilize the social service department of the child’s hospital and do not let pride obstruct if the family needs something extra. Social personnel are taught to help families deal with the strain of a chronically ill child and so they can speak to siblings, help find financial solutions, and liaison between friends and family.
6. Leave the guilt behind when you’ve got a couple of minutes to yourself. Like a hot bubble bath, savor meals served by another individual, or just be content when another has cleaned or done laundry, regardless of whether it’s not up to your standards.
Allow permission to relax or read or simply sit quietly listening to the birds a couple of minutes everyday. It is going to do a lot to holding you back sane and refreshed.
